Discussing Who We Are and State of the Club

AB 8 min read EN 0 yorum

I posted this to Reddit on June 16, 2025

If you have the opinion that no one holds any right to tell you or anyone else how to be a fan, this write-up is not for you. Yes you as a fan have the right to fan you want but others -experienced or not- have also a right to comment on that, we will come back to this point a little bit later.

What gave me the spark to start this is u/notbarkie’s post from the other day. Main point they suggested is there is an agenda against Fener. I am going to expand their point a bit, in the post we have some A Spor pictures. We know where A Spor stands and why (for some of our foreign fans, there is a conflict between this channel and Fenerbahçe) so I am not going to dwell on A Spor but post has a larger point. We see Fenerbahçe get talked about in a very negative light almost always in mainstream media. Why do you think that is? You might say “Yapı”, GS bias in the media or any other answers. For me the simple answer is, we are getting this treatment for a while because this has been the demand of Fenerbahçe fans.

Like most things in our recent history this is another thing that tracks to July 3rd and by extension of that to Alex’s contact termination process in my opinion. The fight that started in the fanbase, to this day is unresolved and we found new ways of separating and building new micro-feners for ourselves. Aziz Yildirim’s treatment of GFB, (compounded by Passolig’s very much intended consequences of profiling and tagging some fan groups) led to rise of AGFB and we found another point of division. Then we had Ali Koc pre-presidency phase and although much of us wanted to have a new president (I still definitely do not want Aziz Yildirim back at all), the tone was very condescending (a trademark of Ali Koc as we know by now) and demeaning.

Instead of not giving any credit to this way of communication we celebrated this. We have as a fanbase (or at least a portion of it) have equally celebrated the nicknames of like Ali Cuck (I despise even writing this) or KOC meant as a curse word. This trend is at such a point that terms like Yali Cocugu (although by itself is innocent context matters) seems preferable in the current climate.

You can add to these separations and divisions in “camia” as you wish. The common denominator will be we are usually quite content and happy to drag each other through mud, demean and condescend other Fenerbahce supporters even when it is at the expense of Fenerbahce.

There is a lot of talk of “Fenerbahce is this” or “Fenerbahce is that” over who you transfer and who you don’t, or who you can convince over GS. I don’t think it matters at all. If I am not mistaken we brought in Nicolas Anelka January 2005, our summer transfers for that year is: Rustu, Murat Hacioglu, Gurhan Gursoy, Deniz Baris, Onder Turaci, Serkan Balci and as we all know Alex. 05/06 season saw us bringing in Stephan Appiah, Zafer Biryol and Serdar Kulbilge. I don’t think you can put them all together and discern a specific type of player as a Fenerbahce player. Gokhan Gonul came in the same transfer window as Roberto Carlos, guess who was more impactful in the season we played. It has never been about names. All this talk about “Fenerbahce topcusu degil” is absolute hot garbage nonsense. You never know until they step onto the pitch sometimes you don’t know even after that.

It is not about transfer it is about who we are. I have been away from the country and therefore Kadikoy for years as I am living abroad. When I was in uni I did hold a season ticket for couple years and travelled from Ankara. The Kadikoy I went to would not boo their own players. I still cannot accept this. This is not an age thing it is how we are changing as a fanbase, and anyone can tell you it is not for good. I and many others have learned “Hep Destek, Tam Destek” this does not mean criticizing board, coach or players. However, once we are on the pitch no exceptions. If you are so willing to mock and humiliate your own board, players and staff, why should others not?

Fenerbahce is a miserable place to be in for its players at this moment. Look at our home record and away record in recent years, one year might be a fluke year. Our home form is a consistent problem. This has to change. When I joined this sub we did not have many members, mods have the tools but going back 6-7 years, it was probably somewhere between 2k and 5k. I want to use this growth in numbers as an opportunity we are 127k strong here. My plea to you is do not let yourself or others mock or humiliate Fenerbahce or people affiliated with Fenerbahce.

We made the same mistake when we were so happy in the “Sayin Baskan” moment of Ali Koc. I wasn’t, and at that point I had been “Aziz Out” for a good 9 years or so. Just because Aziz Yildirim had actions that have harmed our long-term prospects I did not hate him or wanted him humiliated. I believe both Aziz Yildirim and Ali Koc love Fenerbahce dearly, perhaps even more than some of us. That is enough reason by itself but it is just plain wrong to think they had not added any value to this club.

We all want success but your desire to be successful cannot blind you to pre-requisites of success (I will ignore the “Yapi” talk here, if it exists it is out of your control and if it does not no point in talking. So, either way it does not matter in the context I am talking in).

There is this thought process that, because we have not been champions in 11 years (I think?), we have to be this year. It does not work that way. There is no transfer or move that guarantees your season. GS brought Osimhen, he had a ridiculous season and I think it is fair to say he single-handedly made them champions. For a second let’s imagine a world he has a tight hamstring before our cup game and misses 3 games. I think we do not lose that game and probably become champions. Does this make Osimhen a bad transfer or make our moves successful? I don’t think it does. You either think he is a good transfer or not. You either think our moves made sense or not. Results matter but trophies do not determine the efficiency of your business. Since you cannot predict if any transfer guarantees your championship it does not make sense to make or evaluate moves from that context.

We do not need any board members to explain us why which player is bought for.  We all understand that intrinsically, when we buy Eljif, Vedat Muriqi we know these are developmental players that will play for us and move on. By the same token when you bring in ASM, Dzeko, Tadic, Talisca, Skriniar the signal is clear as well, it is winning window. Alas, as we can see just because you wanted it the most does not make that outcome real.

So, what should we do? I think our first task as fans as first relax a little. Not jump on every transfer rumor as our savior or our doom is certain with a player. Let people work in peace (although if you are a congress member submit your signature) and make their minds by just thinking about the game and not what your or my demands are.

Second thing is if you have a season ticket or go to Kadikoy for the odd game, please, when you are in our stadium just be there to support. It is called “Mabed” for a reason. Make sure that our players know we love this club and it matters, support them when they are good, support them harder when they are down. After the game is finished or while the players are in dressing rooms protest the board all you want. But once our team is on the pitch they need you, be there for them.

I am hoping this is the season Ali Koc has at least learned some lessons (I do not believe so but we can hope) and we can give Mourinho what he wants instead of forcing him to play with players he does not use.
